The Culture.Bulgaria's Sneaker Pop-Up, Built From Zero and Brought Back With AI

By close friends.

What's something you wish people could experience again?

For Bulgaria's sneaker and streetwear community, one answer keeps coming up. The Culture started as a pop-up nobody had heard of and became a defining part of the scene. Years later, we imagined its next chapter with AI.

The challenge: a scene with no place to meet

Bulgaria's sneaker and streetwear culture was alive online, in collectors, small brands, DJs, artists and fans, but it had few places to meet in person and share it.

Building The Culture meant giving that community a reason to show up for an event nobody knew yet, and making it feel like theirs rather than just another shop.

Our approach

1 of 5

Bring the whole culture under one roof

The Culture was never just a sneaker sale. It brought collectors, independent resellers, Bulgarian brands, DJs, artists and food partners together, so a visit felt like a day inside the scene. Every partner also brought their own community, and promoted the event to their followers.

Let the culture lead, and the system hold it up

Behind the music and the crowds, every seller's stock was tracked and sold through one system, so independent sellers could share a single floor and trust the result enough to come back.

Give every event its own concept

Across four pop-ups of its own, The Culture explored different formats, from a week-long summer edition in Plovdiv to Halloween and Christmas concepts. Two more events, collaborations with BKS and YALTA, brought music, new creative directions and their communities into The Culture.

Make the content the invitation

Every event was photographed and filmed by The Culture's own team, the same people who are now behind close friends. The aftermovie from one event became the pitch for the next, so each poster, teaser and sponsor deck showed real crowds rather than promises.

Imagine the next chapter with AI

Now and then, someone shares an old photo and the whole community starts talking about The Culture again. That inspired our latest collaboration: a film imagining what its next chapter could feel like. Every scene was created with AI, which let us turn one concept into a cinematic world.

The result: a pop-up people still talk about

What began as a single pop-up grew into an event series that brands, artists and partners asked to join, with more than 16,000 visitors across six events. It became a meeting point for sneakers, streetwear, music and the people who love them, with the retail, partnerships and production behind it managed under one concept.

The Culture FAQ

the short answers.

  • The Culture was a sneaker and streetwear event series founded by the co-founder of close friends. It brought together independent brands, collectors, artists, DJs and the wider streetwear community through four pop-ups in Bulgaria and two collaborations, with BKS and YALTA, drawing more than 16,000 visitors by organiser counts.

  • It was built around the culture, not just the products. Alongside sneakers and streetwear, The Culture brought DJs, artists, Bulgarian brands and food partners together, with collaborations such as BKS and YALTA, so visitors came for a full day out and many friendships started in the queue.

  • Borrow audiences you don't have yet. At The Culture, every brand, artist and partner already had a loyal following, so each of them became a promoter. Pair that with content showing real crowds, and a first event can draw a queue. Its first day drew 2,000 visitors.

  • It can recreate the feeling, if not the day itself. For The Culture, close friends. created a film in which every scene was generated with AI, imagining what the event's next chapter could look like. It gave a community that still shares old photos something new to talk about.
